Why Yaavi is ‘a little girl with a big heart’

NORMALLY a five-yearold’s birthday list would be brimming with the latest toys and teddies, but charity donations? No, that is certainly not a common request.

However, for her fifth birthday, Yaavi Bhandari has asked for those coming along to donate to the NSPCC rather than bringing her presents.

Yaavi, from Northwood wrote “no gifts” on the front of her invites, with an accompanying note on the back saying: “but if you would like to make a donation to the NSPCC I have included an envelope”.

The five-year-old’s parents, Monica and Parminder, said they are proud of her decision.

Yaavi was inspired by the nephew of a family friend.

Her mum, Monica said: “Her actual birthday was on December 27 and she received presents from her dad and me as well as other family members but it is a big deal for a fiveyear-old not to get presents from their friends at their birthday party.

“We’re very proud of her.”

Around 50 children were expected to attend the party at Moor Park Golf Club in Hertfordshire on January 8. Yaavi’s mum said her daughter just wants to help out children who are not as lucky as her.

The NSPCC is a charity which provides help and support for children who have been abused, protects those at risk and works on ways of preventing child abuse from happening.

“The NSPCC is a charity I have always supported and I explained to her in a child-friendly way what it does” says Monica.

“She understands she is very lucky and that there are other children out there who are less fortunate than her.

“I’ve had lots of positive feedback from the parents.

“Most of them impressed Yaavi decided to do this.”

Yaavi’s birthday request has been inspired by a family friend’s 10-year-old nephew who, for the last five years, requested for

“We are extremely grateful to Yaavi. Her generosity will help us with our fight for every childhood.”
