THE landlord of the Wyevale Garden Centre site in Uxbridge, which is to close down, has said it has no plans to develop the site for student accommodation and that it had offered the centre a new lease.

Brunel University owns the land where Hillingdon’s Wyevale Garden Centre currently operates, just off Pield Heath Road.

The garden centre will be closing its doors for good on January 31 and said the closure was because the landlord is considering the redevelopment.

The site is also home to Maidenhead Aquatics.

A spokesman for the Brunel said: “The site for university offered a lease extension to Wyevale, which was not as long as they had hoped for.

“It was Wyevale’s decision to end the lease, which we of course respect.

“We are currently in discussion with the other users of the site about their wishes, and we are open to the possibility of other prospective tenants taking over parts of the site within the existing planning approvals.

“We have no plans for developing the site for student accommodation.

“Our priority is to continue to refurbish the existing residences buildings that we have on campus.”

Wyevale Garden Centre centre said it is working to relocate staff members where possible, and thanked employees and the public. The firm has branches in Harrow and Osterley.

We are in discussion with the other users of the site about their wishes”
