Convicted thug sent to jail for beating up driver
A CONVICTED thug who beat up the driver of a car in a fit of road rage while on release from prison will spend the next five years behind bars.
Charandeep Banger, 34, was found guilty at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday December 13, of attacking a man in Yeading Gardens, Hayes.
The Hayes resident had previously been convicted of a frenzied attack in 2010, when he smashed bottles on the ground and used them to attack and injure six men who had thrown his friend out of a club in Field End Road, Ruislip.
Banger, of Geldwood Road, was out of prison on standard release at the time of the attack, after serving half of his 10-year prison sentence for two charges of grievous bodily harm, as well as common assault and affray.
The road rage assault took place at around 4pm on Friday November 10 while the victim was driving down a narrow road on his way to pick his daughter up from school, the court was told.
Banger, driving a black Mercedes, was passing through a narrow gap when he pulled up alongside the victim and started “yelling from his window”, one witness told the magistrates.
The victim, much shorter than Banger, felt threatened and got out of his car to take a picture of Banger’s number plate, the court heard.
He then swung at Banger who had started to drive away, who then stopped and exited his car and punched the victim several times to his head.
The victim suffered a bloody nose and a large welt to his forehead.
During his police interview 20 minutes after the incident, the officer described the victim as “slow to respond” and “dazed and confused”.
Meanwhile, Banger obtained no injuries in the “tussle”, during which he claims he was struck on the shoulder.
Other drivers and builders from a nearby site had to step in to stop the fight from escalating, prosecutor Sharn Mardener told the court.
The court heard how police traced the registered address of the car and arrived at Banger’s address in minutes, where a white cloth covered the top of the car and concealed the number plate.
Questioned about the car, Banger initially told police his friend had been driving and had only just returned it, but he admitted in court that this was a lie.
Richard Jeffries, for the defence, argued that his client was acting in self defence, which the magistrates accepted, but said the force used was disproportionate.
“The defendant acted in selfdefence, but the amount of force used was unreasonable,” said the magistrate.
“The victim was beaten badly and the two men were of significantly different sizes.
“In light of Mr Banger’s bad char- acter we find him guilty beyond all reasonable doubt.”
He will now have to serve the remaining five years of his original sentence, and was handed an additional three months in custody for the road rage incident.
He is scheduled to be released from prison in 2023.
Banger was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 within six months of his release from prison.
