Second-half turnaround condemns Uxbridge to Floodlit Cup last-four defeat

-

UXBRIDGE RFC lost 24-20 in the semi-final of the Floodlit Cup at neighbours Ruislip.

The visitors started the strongest and were first on the scoreboard, after some strong running ended up with Sam Dillamore opening Uxbridge’s account from close range.

Uxbridge began to turn the screw and their second try came shortly after, as fly-half Nick Guy fired the ball for Naz Rafaithu to outpace his man and touch down for an unconverted try.

Ruislip came back into the game to score an unconverted try before Guy added a penalty to take the score to 13-5 at the break.

The second half belonged to Ruislip though, as they crashed over the try line twice to take a 14-13 lead.

They extended their lead further moments later with a fiveminute spell of dominance that yielded two tries to take the score to 24-13.

Dillamore scored his second try of the afternoon after some good work by Matt Cowper, Ollie Seward and Matt Coker but time was not on Uxbridge’s side, and the referee blew the final whistle to send Ruislip through to the final.
