UXBRIDGE-based dance academy Futunity UK was the big winner at the United Dance Organisation’s British Street Dance Championships 2018.

The championship event, held from March 16 to 18, in Somerset, saw Futunity named top overall scoring dance school of the competition. The school also qualified for the prestigious European Championships in Germany in May and August’s World Championships in Glasgow.

More than 2,200 dancers and spectators attended the British Street Dance Championships to compete to be crowned British champion of their category.

The sold-out event was also an open championship, giving dancers and teams of all ages an opportunity to showcase their tal- ents and skills. Throughout the weekend, dancers and crews performed routines including various street dance styles such as popping, locking and breakdance in a wide range of difference performance categories, such as solos, duos and teams.

An impressive judging panel of industry professionals included So You Think You Can Dance finalist Lizzie Gough and one of the world’s leading breakdancers, B-girl Roxy, who were also on hand to provide inspiring workshops.

Nicole McDonnell, academy manager at Futunity UK, said: “We were so proud to be awarded the title of overall top scoring dance academy, as well as win an additional 58 trophies in solos, duos and teams.

“This is our ninth time attending the UDO British Championships and we already can’t wait for the next so we can defend our title.”
