Animal Rescue with Marion Garnett

Dedicated animal expert MARION GARNETT, founder of the Ealing Animal Charities Fair continues her column

VISITING people in hospital, baking someone a cake, releasing spiders back outside and opening windows for bees to fly home, acts of kindness to human or animal, never go amiss.

To highlight the importance of being kind, the RSPCA has just published a Guide to Animal Kindness setting out several ways to be kind to animals. These include protecting wildlife habitats and if you see an animal in danger or being mistreated calling the RSPCA Cruelty and Emergency Helpline on 0300 1234 999.

Offering a rescued animal a loving home is another way of being kind and Bruiser is patiently waiting for his offer.

Just from hearing his name, I knew he’d be my sort of boy and he was. With old scars on his face, he didn’t want to mess around purring or sitting on my lap, he just wanted to know straight away, was there any food and, if so, where was it.

This isn’t surprising as he came into the care of the RSPCA with the history of being a stray cat who only occasionally had food put out for him. He looked as though he’s learnt how to take care of himself but now he’s ready to settle down.

If this could be with you, Bruiser is preparing himself at the RSPCA Cat Adoption Centre, Burket Close, Southall, to receive his kind invitation.

There are several exciting events taking place soon. On Wednesday May 9, the Southall RSPCA centre (address above) is holding a low cost neutering day for male dogs.

If you are interested and are eligible for your dog to have RSPCA care, phone 0300 1230 746 option 3 for details and an appointment.

Secondly, on Monday May 7 (11am-4pm), the National Animal Welfare Trust’s Open Day is taking place at their rehoming centre at Tylers Way, Watford by pass. There will be a Dog Show, Have-a-go agility and lots of fun for children.

On Thursday May 10 (11am-3pm), Dogs Trust will be at Barra Hall Park, Freemans Lane, Hayes offering free health checks, free microchipping (it’s a legal requirement for dogs to be microchipped) and £35 neutering vouchers for those who are eligible. For details go to the Dogs Trust facebook page. Finally, Mayhew have their Open Day at Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green on Sunday May 13 (11am-4pm).

As well as being a street party, visitors can tour the veterinary clinic and practise their operating skills. There will be a veggie barbecue, live music and garden games.
