FIGURES SHOW LONDON’S QUIETEST AND BUSIEST TRAIN STATIONS

-

OFFICIAL figures have revealed which of London’s stations are the busiest - but also least used.

London stations make up nine of the top ten most used in Britain - with only Birmingham New Street coming anywhere close to being as hectic.

Analysis carried out for the Office of Road and Rail reveals where in the capital you’re most likely to be consumed in a crowd that feels fully cattle class.

However jaded commuters might be more interested in finding a station where there is a bit of peace and quiet.

One station that doesn’t make the list of London’s busiest is Clapham Junction, despite signs there that proclaim it as the busiest around.

That’s because Clapham Junction had the most interchanges, but not ‘entries and exits’ which is what the Office of Rail and Road use to calculate busyness.

Almost 30 million people changed trains at the South London station but Clapham Junction also had the most delayed trains for the first nine months of 2018, with 54 per cent delayed or cancelled, according to a Which? report.

It’s important to note that as the UK doesn’t have gates at every single train station, the boffins behind the list of the busiest and quietest stations do have to make some educated estimations.

But in London the figures should be pretty accurate, thanks to Oyster readers.

So do you regularly use one of the city’s most packed stations? And is a hidden gem of a quiet station just around the corner from you?
