Top scorers brush aside Tooting & Mitcham

-

A WHOPPING 76 goals scored sees Hayes & Yeading United remain the leading league scorers in Steps one to four of the non-league pyramid.

They won 3-1 against Tooting & Mitcham United in their latest Isthmian League South Central Division clash with three penalties in the match all scored, with Scott Donnelly notching two for Hayes, while the only goal from open play came from Toby Little for United. Paul Hughes’ side are now five points clear at the top with two games in hand and a plus-58 goal difference.

Hughes said: “We seem to be constantly facing the form side in the division at the moment. Westfield, Bedfont and Tooting have all come into their game against us with excellent league form and this showed in the way they have all started the game against us at a very high tempo. I have to give credit to our players for weathering the first 20 minutes and then getting the foothold in the game that we needed to start imposing our own pressure.

“Credit to Tooting who had clearly learnt from our last encounter and, in my opinion, were tactically spot on with how they set up against us. They made life very difficult for us to play and kept funnelling us down one side of the pitch which, initially, made us very predictable in our play, but we came away with another three points away from home.”

United visit Chalfont St Peter on Saturday before a trip to South Park next Tuesday. Hayes have been drawn at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough in the Middlesex Charity Cup, the date to be decided.
