PRATT’S DOUBLE NOT ENOUGH FOR STONES

-

WEALDSTONE held fifth-placed Concord Rangers in National League South when it looked like David Pratt had given them all three points.

The 2-2 draw in Essex was keenly fought and leaves Wealdstone in 13th, six points away from seventh and the play-offs.

The game began quietly before the home side got quickly into their rhythm and scored after 11 minutes courtesy of striker Alex Wall.

A cross swung in from the left hand side by Tyrone Sterling made it simple for Wall to glance his header past Stones keeper Jonathan North.

It only took Wealdstone six minutes to respond with a chance of their own. Reece Mitchell passed to Godfrey Poku on the right hand side who crossed – the ball finding Colchester loanee Eoin McKeown free at the near post, but he could not guide his header towards goal.

Wealdstone began to dominate for a 10-minute spell and got their reward in the 31st minute.

Full-back Ramarni MedfordSmith started the move which ended with McKeown’s shot being parried by Concord goalkeeper Sam Beasant, only for Pratt to fire in the rebound for his first goal since November.

Wall had a real chance to put Concord in front, but he shot wide midway through the second half.

It was Stones who scored next, when sub Jeffrey Monakana picked up a loose ball on the left and crossed for Pratt to add his second.

Wall had the final say, however, smashing in from point-blank range at the back post just two minutes later after latching onto Danny Green’s cross from the right.

Concord boss Sammy Moore paid Wealdstone a compliment by saying: “I see this as a point gained with the way results have gone. It was two sides going for it.”
