there have been considerable changes in staffing, including at headteacher and senior level,” inspectors wrote. “This instability led to a sharp decline in outcomes at all key stages in 2017.”

Pupil outcome, behaviour, quality of teaching and leadership all took a hit in the inspection, while early years’ provision was still rated good.

The school in Nursery Way, Uxbridge was praised for improving results in maths and English. An “outstanding” rating is rare, and certainly something to be proud of.

Sunshine House, in Northwood , is a “specialist day school which caters for pupils who are blind or partially sighted and who have additional profound, multiple and complex learning disabilities”.

And it seems they know what they are doing, with every single category in the full inspection this January ranked outstanding by inspectors.

The school was rated inadequate in 2007, but in the dozen years since, has improved massively in the inspectors’ eyes.

The inspection noted: “The school’s values and ‘10 golden rules’ underpin this successful school. These rules ensure that pupils receive the utmost respect and have a voice.

“Pupils’ outcomes are excellent. Leaders develop high-quality staff at all levels and pioneer a belief in each pupil’s ability to make progress, even from very low starting points.”
