Milestone reached in £600m Acton Gardens development

-

ANOTHER milestone was reached for the Acton Gardens development last week with the completion of a new community hub.

The hub, which will house a new doctor’s surgery and nursery, is intended as a centrepiece of the 3,463 new homes which will eventually comprise the development.

The £600 million regeneration project is currently seven years into a 15-year master plan, which was started in 2012 and is intended to be completed in 2027.

Once completed Acton Gardens will deliver 3,463 homes, of which around half will be affordable or social rent properties.

To-date, 1,161 homes and 11,617 square feet of community facilities have been completed, with another 538 homes under construction, and an expected delivery of around 300 homes each year.

The development replaces 1,800 homes on the former-South Acton Estate.

Homes are currently on sale at two other phases of Acton Gardens, Boreal and Lindley, with one-bedroom apartments starting from £420,000.

The hub itself is expected to open in 2020, and will also provide 160 new homes.

Acton Gardens has already delivered a new community centre, youth club, local supermarket, dental surgery and neighbourhood office.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “I was delighted to see the progress that has been made at Acton Gardens.

The Green development in Ealing promises over 500 homes. The view down the central boulevard shows a pedestrianised zone with commercial spaces at ground level lined with newly planted trees.

“Once completed, the new estate will host almost 1,300 socially rented homes, all of which will be well within the means of local people on low incomes.

“Every existing South Acton tenant who wants one of the safe, modern new flats at Acton Gardens will get one.”

Jacqueline Esimaje-Heath, regional development director for developer L&Q, said: “Good regeneration needs to go beyond homes and housing services. It’s about investing in the communities where you build.”
