Trailfinders frustrated at Coventry comeback
FORWARDS coach Glen Townson says his Ealing Trailfinders side will make sure that they learn from the performance after a disappointing 28-28 draw at home to Coventry.
The Trailfinders let a 14-point lead slip in the final 15 minutes which meant that the match ended all square, something Townson and the players were disappointed about.
“We’re frustrated and ill-discipline cost us,” said Townson. “We did so well in the second half to get in front, but there are game changing moments that invite pressure and we need to manage those better.
“It’s pleasing to come away with three points but the end was disappointing and we’ve got to bounce back with a big performance against Yorkshire Carnegie.
“The first 20 minutes of that second half we did everything right, which was great to see.
“We played a lot of rugby down in their half. The last 20 minutes we were playing all in our half.
“There was some ill-discipline, which cost us in the first half particularly, as well as compounding errors, and a couple of individual mistakes and suddenly you find yourselves 28-28.
“We were disappointed with how we finished the last 20 minutes.”
“We invited pressure against us and that is probably the big learning from this game.
“It’s more of a mindset perspective. We have to be consistent for 80 minutes. I know these players have ability and this group can do some special things. We need to get the ball rolling and keep it rolling so to speak.”
Ealing are now fourth in the Championship, already six points behind leaders Newcastle Falcons after four matches with two wins so far.
