Trailfinders’ dozen tries destroys Blues

-

EALING TRAILFINDERS crushed Bedford Blues 80-17 in the Championship Cup while racking up a stunning 12 tries.

And Craig Willis said that the performance against Bedford shows how good the Trailfinders can be when they express themselves.

The fly-half scored 25 points in a man-of-the-match display and enjoyed the expansive style of rugby.

“That’s the perfect way for us to come back and start this block of matches,” he told the club’s website.

“We’re building towards Newcastle [Championship, December 21] and that performance is exactly how we want to play.

“We had a big emphasis on our attack and played with loads of ambition.

“When we’re on the front foot we’re at our best and everything fell into place.

“That’s definitely the best we’ve been this season and it gives us a benchmark now to keep getting better The performance .“is exactly what we’ve been talking about since preseason really.

“We placed a big emphasis on keeping ball in hand and that’s what we did and the breakdown was the best it’s been all season. The forwards put a hell of a shift in.

“We know we are good when we start well.

“We put that emphasis into our game. We blew them out of the water early doors.

“We wanted to finish off the job in the second half and we did that.”

Director of rugby Ben Ward added: “The first 40 minutes was some of the best rugby I’ve seen since I’ve been in charge. I thought they were absolutely brilliant.

“There’s definitely things we still want to work on. Our line-out wasn’t that great and I don’t think we carried the intensity in the second half, but we still maintained an intensity that was too good.

“Overall it was just enjoyable to watch. We have got some really good players and we just went at them.”
