Fire breaks out after car ploughs into shop

-

A SHOP in Uxbridge has been badly damaged after a car crashed ploughed into the shopfront and a fire broke out in “suspicious” circumstances.

Emergency services were called just after midnight on Monday morning (February 17).

The car had crashed into Tan Boutique on Sutton Court Road and the shop was on fire.

Thankfully no one was injured but the police are treating the fire as suspicious.

A cordon was in place into Monday morning and a picture taken the next days shows the extensive damage to the shop front with the car still crashed into it.

The metal shutters at the front of the shop were bent out of shape where the car smashed into it and the glass front was also badly damaged.

Fire damage can be seen up the front of the building.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “The Brigade were called at 12.21am on Monday (February 17).

“A car had hit a shop on Sutton Court Road, Uxbridge, and the building was on fire.

“Part of the ground floor was damaged as well as part of the external fixtures on the first and second floor. Five fire engines attended and the fire was under control by 1.1.8am”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A number of residents were evacuated from nearby properties; no injuries were reported.

“At this stage the fire is being treated as suspicious.
