Eager Marsh is ready to have a Blast with Middlesex
MIDDLESEX CCC have announced the signing of Australia international all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for the club’s Vitality Blast campaign.
Born in Attadale, Perth, Marsh, 28, will arrive at Lord’s ahead of the start of the T20 campaign in late May, and joins young Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman at Middlesex as the club’s second overseas Vitality Blast signing for the 2020 tournament.
Marsh will be available for the entire group stage of the competition – with the provision to extend his stay with Middlesex should the club secure qualification to the knockout stages.
Making his international debut in 2011, Marsh has since earned almost 100 caps for Australia – 32 on the Test stage and 64 across both whiteball formats – and brings a wealth of international experience to the Middlesex squad.
As a hard-hitting middle-order batsman and right-arm seamer capable of topping 85mph, Middlesex’s latest signing will offer Eoin Morgan, the club’s new Vitality Blast captain, lots of quality in both departments.
Having previously represented the Deccan Chargers, the Pune Warriors and the Rising Pune Supergiants at the IPL, and Perth Scorchers in the KFC Big Bash and the Champions League, Marsh also brings an abundance of experience earned at the world’s biggest T20 competitions.
Marsh joins Middlesex in great form in the T20 format of the game – finishing the recent Big Bash in Australia with the highest batting average in the Scorchers’ line-up, having hit 382 runs at an impressive 34.72 and a strike rate of over 145.
Speaking of the signing of his compatriot, Middlesex’s head coach Stuart Law said: “It’s great to have Mitch with us for the Blast this season. The experience he’s had in different T20 competitions around the world will be a real plus for our dressing room.
“Mitch is a hardhitting batsman, steady medium fast bowler and athletic in the field. I’m looking forward to seeing the big man contribute to our season in a positive way.
“As a tremendous team man and such a lovable character, I’m sure he’ll fit in well with our group.”
Marsh said: “I’m very excited.
“The opportunity to play at this great club with an exciting list of players is something I’m very proud of and hopefully we can play some great cricket and entertain the fans along the way.”
