Heathrow passengers met by ‘people in hazmats’

-

A NUMBER of people wearing hazmat suits met passengers as they disembarked a plane at London Heathrow Airport on Sunday.

The British Airways flight from Krakow landed at 1.24pm and immediately customers started tweeting in alarm after they were “met by police and staff in masks” and “people in hazmats handing out forms”.

One man at the scene said: “As we exited the plane two armed police were stood on the edge of the door tunnel.

“We walked a bit of the way and a senior airport official hurried us along the walkway. We were then met by two more officials – a woman and an airport support man in a hivis jacket wearing a face mask.

“No information was given. By the plane were two fire engines and two police vans. We were herded together and doors were locked so we were contained between the main terminal and the aeroplane corridor. We were told they were dealing with an incident.

“A rumour went round that there were people on the flight with symptoms of coronavirus.”

He went on to say how fire officers appeared wearing the white suits and told everyone to fill out a form asking for their address, flight number and names of the people they had been travelling with.

MyLondon approached British Airways for comment and a spokesperson said: “It was not related to Covid-19.”

A staff member at Transport for London (TfL), the body which is responsible for running the London Underground has tested positive for coronavirus.

It is understood that the employee works at the company’s offices at Palestra House, in Blackfriars, rather than as a driver or someone in direct contact with the general public each day.

TfL says the person does not work in any of the company’s control centres.

The office where the infected employee works has been deep cleaned and advice from Public Health has been followed.
