■ THIS intriguing documentary looks at Biosphere 2, a human habitat created in Arizona to mimic Earth’s ecosystem which eight people entered in 1991 in a two-year experiment. Set up by sustainability guru John Allen and paid for by billionaire Ed Bass, the idea was to see whether it was possible to create a biosphere that could sustain life across different environments, including extraterrestrial ones. Using archive footage and interviews with the main players, film-maker Matt Wolf looks at how the project developed, how the eight ‘bionauts’ adapted to life in the biosphere and how a rift between Allen and Bass compromised the original idea.
