HGV traffic a widespread menace

WITH reference to the May 25 Uxbridge Gazette article regarding HGV traffic along residential Sidmouth Drive – this road is not the only street plagued by the problem.

The residents of Shenley Avenue and Eversley Crescent also experience HGVs using their roads as a shortcut between West End Road and Victoria Road, instead of following the prescribed route via Pembroke Road.

Shenley/Eversley’s particular concern is the absence of any restrictive 7.5 tonne HGV signs in West End Road, which therefore encourages such heavy traffic to enter Eversley Crescent, whereas there are entry controls at other junctions with the main road, including at Sidmouth Drive.

The effectiveness of such signs is unknown, but Shenley/Eversley is seeking parity with the junctions which do have such signage in the hope that some respite may be achieved.

There are appropriate signs in Victoria Road which restrict entry into Shenley Avenue, but equivalent signs are required at the other end of the shortcut in order to indicate a restriction to traffic travelling in either direction on West End Road.

Recent opinion canvassed from residents supported both the need for increased signage and a formal petition if necessary, but the matter is presently being pursued on our behalf by ward councillors, which it is hoped will lead to the required solution. BRIAN GRISDALE Eversley Crescent
