Colourful day out for gardeners at show

-

ATJG1ST

amazing array of colour greeted visitors to the Ickenham and Swakeleys Horticultural Society Autumn Show at Ickenham Village Hall on Saturday.

After judging, the prizes and awards were presented by the Mayor of Hillingdon John Hensley with the Lady Mayoress Diane Hensley – a keen gardener herself.

Organisers were delighted with the success of the show and visitors filled the hall all afternoon, enjoying the beautiful flowers, plants and superb array of vegetables grown by members.

Also on display were some fabulous photographic exhibits, as well as delicious cookery and wine entries.

There was also great interest in the many varied junior entries and great excitement, with the final judging of our tallest sunflower competition won by Umika Upadhyaya, aged nine, whose giant sunflower reached 3.8m.

Trophies for the overall winners throughout the year will be presented at the Society’s annual meeting in December. A raffle with plenty of prizes from local traders also raised money for the mayor’s charities.
