UXBRIDGE was treated to a fantastic acrobatic display on Tuesday last week when four-time Olympic medal winning gymnast Louis Smith visited.

The 27-year-old made his first public appearance since returning from the Rio Olympics in Brazil to demonstrate his pommel horse routine and talk about his career.

Louis visited the home of Hillingdon Mind in Aston House as part of the Cif Before and After Project, which sees community centres across the country given a deep clean.

The performance took IN THE SPOTLIGHT: place at Christ Church, opposite Aston House, which has a larger capacity for visitors.

Aston House won the clean up and the visit from the Olympic star as part of the competition after Eva Okwonga put the centre forward.

She said: “Aston House is a much-used building that hosts many projects and activities to help local people with mental health problems.

“Some are run by Hillingdon Mind, others are independent – like the men’s group and Music in Mind – and most would not exist without a small army of volunteers.”

Eva added: “Having a visit from Louis Smith is the icing on the cake. So proud of what he’s done for Great Britain.”

Louis, who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, put on a performance for crowds gathered in Christ Church in Redford Way and answered questions from the audience.

The nationwide Before and After competition encourages people to nominate community spaces names to be in with a chance of a deep clean and a visit from Louis.

It kicked off earlier this year when Louis visited the centre where he trained gymnastics as a child.
