THERE’S something about this face that’s heartbreaking. He looks as though he has not had an easy life. Whiskers was found, as a stray, with a poorly toe. Many of us know how ailments such as a poorly toe or a splinter in our finger can sound minor but are actually the source of great pain.
Who knows how much suffering Whiskers endured before he received help? Thankfully, he was taken to The Mayhew where they sorted him out and he is now ready for his new home.
He is a firm favourite at the home, where he sits waiting to melt people’s hearts.

His new owners will need to watch one of his claws to ensure it does not grow into his foot.
Relief of suffering is what animal rescue organisations do and often not just in this country, but also abroad.
The Mayhew is holding an international evening on October 2 from 6.30pm to tell supporters about their work abroad.
Peter Egan, the actor, will compere the evening and entertainment will be provided by the Kate Daniels Jazz Quartet, featuring Alec Dankworth on bass and John Horler on piano.
The evening takes place at Burgh House, New End Square NW3 1LT.

One of the success stories of The Mayhew’s international work is the rescue of three orphaned bear cubs after flooding in Georgia.
Mayhew supporters, together with the Born Free Foundation, ensured that last May the three bears were sent to the Bear and Wolf Arcturos Sanctuary in Greece.
The Mayhew recently received an update telling g them how the cubs have made friends with another cub, Patrick, and how w they spend their days chilling in their dens or playing, swimming and climbing.

Nearer home, The Mayhew is attending the Chiswick House Dog Show on Sunday, from 11am to 4.15pm.
Other charities, such as Dogs Trust and Animals Asia, will also be among more than 60 stallholders there.
The celebrity-judged dog show features classes such as Best Rescue and My Dog’s Got Talent.
It takes place on the cricket pitch at Chiswick House Gardens W4 2RP.
