Fossil hunters find signs of life in shopping centre

Ancient traces of creatures found under the feet of youngsters

-

TJG1ST ANCIENT fossils were uncovered in Uxbridge this week, as intu Uxbridge celebrated National Fossil Day by revealing the history of their stone tile floor.

Young shoppers went on a fossil hunting adventure around the shopping centre on Wednesday October 12 with intu Uxbridge’s very own archaeologist character Frankie Fossil. Children toured the shopping centre to discover more, uncovering the history of intu Uxbridge’s stone tiles which originally belonged to an ancient sea floor over 180 million years ago.

Frankie Fossil hosted the fun fossil finding sessions on National Fossil Day after school, where visitors picked up their mission kit, learnt about the history of fossils and what to look for in-centre, went hunting around intu Uxbridge and then took home a certificate for their hard work.

There are two types of fossils at intu Uxbridge can be found across the lower ground floor. Body fossils are the easiest to spot, with markings that look like the body or the ON THE MARCH: shell of a creature. Trace fossils look like footprints, showing where creatures have been.

“The team here at intu Uxbridge have been so excited to reveal our historic floor tiles, and what better day to do it on National Fossil Day,” said Natasha House, marketing manager at intu Uxbridge. “Shoppers of all ages enjoyed our fun fossil finding & facts, and we encourage all our visitors to keep an eye out to see if they spot any fossils when they next visit.

“A big thank you to Harrow & Hillingdon Geological Society and Sheppy Shepherd for their help.”

You can share your fossil finds with intu Uxbridge via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For more information on the fossils at intu Uxbridge, and upcoming events in-centre, visit www.intu.co.uk/Uxbridge.
