Couple fined for fly-tipping offence

-

A COUPLE from Uxbridge have been fined over £2,700 by a court for dumping their household waste in Buckinghamshire because they had seen other waste dumped there.

On June 7 this year waste was found at Rowley Lane in Wexham but a West Partnership for Buckinghamshire Officer who was investigating fly tipping.

A packaging label in the dumped rubbish was found and used to trace the offence back to the couple’s home address.

Jeet Khakhria, 35, and his wife, Jilna Khakhria, 33 both pleaded guilty to the offence at Milton Kenyes Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (October 11).

The chairman of Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, Cllr Mike Smith said: “To claim that illegal dumping is acceptable because a site has already been spoilt by others is not a good excuse.

“The court was not impressed, and fined this couple accordingly.”

The couple, of Hardy Mews, said they had gone to the site specifically to dump waste, because they had previously seen rubbish left there and believed it was okay.

Magistrates fined Mr Khakhria £815 and Mrs Khakria £390.

Each was ordered to pay £701 towards prosecution costs, and £82 and £39 respectively in victim surcharges – bringing the total to £2,728.

The case was investigated and prosecuted by Buckinghamshire County Council.
