United taste more glory at Enfield

DENHAM United followed last week’s FA Women’s Cup win over Ipswich Town Ladies by knocking Enfield Ladies out of the County Cup on Sunday.

Chontelle Lawrence gave Denham a half-time lead, but Enfield levelled late on to take the tie to penalties and after Alissa Down, Jo Torr, Helen Capewell, Kim Pendred and Lawerence all netted for, keeper Lizzie Rose saved to take it to sudden death, where Denham went on to win.

They will now host Charlton Athletic Ladies, who are currently top of the league above them, in the quarter-finals on November 20. Before that, they travel to Coventry Ladies, who are in the league above, in the second round of the Women’s FA Premier League Cup this Sunday.

The reserves, meanwhile, made it a County Cup double by seeing off Enfield Town’s reserves 4-0 thanks to Ellen Wardlaw’s first goal in senior football, plus further strikes from Elisha Allen, Eva Ramsey and Charlie Leigh Dixon.

Meanwhile, a Denham team made up of four seniors and nine U16s won 3-0 in a friendly at Old Actonians, with Julia Thuruaf bagging a brace and Yasmin Garcia also on target, while the U15s came from behind to beat previously unbeaten leaders Garston 3-2, thanks to a Niamh Reynolds double and a great free kick from skipper Holly Symons.

Playing up an age group in the U15s County Cup did not bother the U14s, who knocked out Hackney Wick after Claire Weiner scored the only goal of the game with eight minutes remaining. This made up for their 2-1 defeat to Ruislip Rangers the previous day, in which Kaitlin Brown netted and Ellie Wright was player of the match.

Mille Congerton was unfortunate to have a goal disallowed in the U12s’ 1-0 defeat against fellow high-fliers Letchworth Eagles, while the U11s Wildcats beat Kew Park Rangers with goals from Madison Perry, Ellie Trigg, Paige Holie and Ruby McCulloch, but the U11 Pumas lost to Camden, despite Phoebe Smith getting among the goals.
