Bloxx capturing the emotions
Hayes FM presenter Hughie Dixon reviews the live band scene
HILLINGDON four piece band Bloxx have a new single out this week on iTunes and all the major MP3 download sites. ‘Ur Boyfriend’ has the familiar subject matter of not being too fond of your friend’s partner for whatever reason.
Be it a hunch or a tiny twinge of jealousy we’ve all been there and the most successful of songwriters express the themes we relate to all too well.
Bloxx certainly have that knack of encapsulating an emotion within a three minute recording.
Singer Ophelia Booth’s vocal tones are both haunting and catchy in this latest offering and the band’s style has an archaic modernism in that a guitar echo that wouldn’t be too displaced in a 1950s rock and roll record fits just perfectly within their enigmatic and unique soundscape.
If you’re lucky you can catch Bloxx playing live tonight (Wednesday October 26) at The Underbelly in Hoxton Square, N1 6NU. Tickets are £5 on the door.
But if this heads up is too late for you just download their songs and have your own indoor Bloxx party www.bloxx.bandcamp.com is a treat for your ears. Check them out now.
