O’Driscoll: We have to wait for new boss

Chairman’s candidates are both in post at other clubs

United Chairman Tony O’Driscoll confirmed he hopes to conduct interviews with the two shortlisted candidates tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday this week, meaning a decision could be made by Friday.

However, with both men currently employed by other clubs it is likely current caretaker, Director of Football Tristan Lewis will oversee Saturday’s CARETAKER: home tie against Hitchin in the FA Trophy, a game to be staged at Beaconsfield FC because of the ongoing work at United’s own stadium.

“There is no new news on the manager front whatsoever,” O’Driscoll told the Gazette.

“I’m making time on Wednesday and Thursday to speak with the two candidates, so it is going to be the back end of the week at the earliest before there is any more news.

“The fact both men are currently with other clubs makes things more difficult, but just how difficult we will have to wait and see.”

On the pitch, Lewis’ latest stint as caretaker continued with a 1-1 draw with Cirencester in a game played at Uxbridge FC’s Honeycroft Stadium.

Olu Durojaiye coolly put United ahead from the spot in first half stoppage-time, but by then other good chances, including a headed effort from Melford Simpson had gone a-begging.

Lloyd Macklin forced a decent save from visiting keeper Harvey Rivers after the break, but the missed chances came back to haunt the hosts when Aidan Bennett’s tap-in from Cirencester’s first shot on target 25 minutes from time meant it ended honours even.

O’Driscoll was in little doubt this was two points lost, putting more pressure on tougher looking games ahead starting at Weymouth last night.

“It should have been points,” he added.

“We had enough chances to be 3-0 up at half-time and then the goal we gave away in the second half was sloppy.

“We have played three sides in a row down the bottom so seven points out of nine would have been better than the five we’ve got because now we have games coming up against sides at the top.” three TJG1ST WAITING GAME:
