New manager to stay a secret

FOOTBALL

-

CHAIRMAN: HAYES & Yeading’s players have been told they will all have a fair chance to fight for their place under the club’s new manager, writes Tim Street.

United were hoping to appoint a permanent replacement for Mickey Lewis today (Wednesday), but temporary boss Tristan Lewis will remain in charge for Saturday’s trip to high-flying Chippenham before returning to director of football duties.

The new manager, who the club are keeping under wraps until an official announcement is made, could take charge for the first time when United visit Harrow Borough in the Middlesex Senior Cup next Tuesday.

Club chairman Tony O’Driscoll said: “We’re hoping Tristan will continue to take training this week and take charge of Saturday’s game while the new manager watched on and has a chance to take a look at the players.

“Obviously they will want to bring in some players of their own, but what we don’t want is the ones we already have saying they haven’t had a fair chance to prove themselves.”

United bowed out of the FA Trophy last Saturday, going down to a late Will Wright strike for Hitchin Town, which proved to be the only goal of the game.

Elsewhere, Uxbridge also exited the FA Trophy by the same scoreline, losing at home to Harlow Town, but Northwood have a second bite of the cherry and were due to replay at home to Royston Town last night (Tuesday).

Goals from Luke Henighan and Frankie Jones earned the Woods a 2-2 draw against the Southern One Central leaders in Saturday’s tie, and the winners of the replay have been drawn at home to Wimborne Town.
