Day of Days (except the national quiet one)
I’M AFRAID National Cholesterol month in October passed me by, but in my defence there are too many special days going on, from Pig Day – what? – on March 1, to National Quiet Day on September 14 (you definitely skipped that one, grumbles Mr F over my shoulder).
Apparently the cholesterol campaign raised awareness of what it means for our health and our hearts. If the advice is eating more avocado, I’m all for it.
But – there’s always a but isn’t there? – in the interests of research I’ve discovered that there’s now a global shortage of avocado, and even a black market in New Zealand, one of the main producers. My parents would have laughed at that: shortages to them in WW2 meant lamb and sausages, not fancy fruit.
So, fellow avocado aficionados (try saying that with a mouthful of fruit), we should not be gobbling up the planet’s supplies. Sometimes you just can’t win, can you?
But I have good news. Try singing instead. Belonging to a choir has become almost as popular as the avocado and not only is it fun; it is scientifically proved that you get more oxygen into the blood; it increases the flow of feel-good hormones and improves mental health. And presumably while you’re singing you can’t be stuffing cholesterol-packed cakes and cheese into your mouth.
Luckily local songwriting team Gavin Sparks and Kay Shelley are looking for singers who would enjoy learning and performing their new Christmas song Day of Days, with its traditional Nativity theme.
Composer/guitarist Gavin and lyricist Kay, of Uxbridge, run the local jazz and Latin band Pimp My Jazz, which performs all over West London and beyond.
Day of Days has already been professionally studio-mixed with a female lead vocal and a few harmonies, but the duo feel it would benefit from a live performance with a choir.
They already have three choirs interested in rehearsing the song – in Chelsea, Southfields and Iver, but they would love a Hillingdon-based group.
