Concert tackles the big expansion issue

THE expansion of Heathrow Airport is a local and political hot potato to say the least. Many argue that a third runway will bring prosperity in the form of much-needed employment opportunities to the most densely populated area of Britain, the south-east.
However, a growing number of Harmondsworth, Sipson, West Drayton and Harlington residents, the towns that face the brunt of impending change, tend to fear a grimmer vision of unwanted compulsory purchases of properties, respiratory health issues, increased likelihood of crashes or collisions, motorway traffic nightmares, pollution and congestion to name but a few of their major concerns.
Even Hillingdon’s opposing Labour and Conservative MP’s John McDonnell (Hayes and Harlington) and Boris Johnson (Uxbridge) agree that the expansion is a bad idea.
One nameless local resident (less than a mile from the proposed runway site) and supporter of SHE (Stop Heathrow Expansion) has decided to arrange an evening where musicians from the Hillingdon OPENERS:
borough and surrounding areas who oppose a third runway join together for a one-off gig at The Crown and Treaty pub, in Oxford Road, Uxbridge, and raise awareness of the issues we all face.
Even if you are pro-Heathrow expansion, you will be welcome to come along and state your case to the SHE team.
From 8pm on Thursday December 22, five bands will take to the stage and play their original music. First and foremost this will be a night of music, however there will be leaflets, T shirts and volunteers from SHE to answer any queries you might have regarding the implications of Heathrow’s expansion.
