Animal Rescue with Marion Garnett
THE sleigh has just turned left at Ealing Town Hall – the very junction where it’s recently been forbidden – but, never mind, because we’re high up in the air on our annual sleigh ride around the local animal rehoming centres to see what Christmas Day has in store for animals in their care.
First stop is the National Animal Welfare Trust at Tylers Way, Watford.
Here on Christmas Day the animals cannot wait to see what is in the Christmas shoe boxes they have seen arriving filled with goodies for them.
To make sure there is enough to go round, if you can take a box of food/toys to the centre for dogs, cats, rabbits or guinea pigs, you will be very welcome.
Up and away now, over Westfield, to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home where, on Christmas Day, carols are played and various scents including frankincense are misted round the kennels to keep the dogs’ environment interesting.
All the animals have a special lunch. The dogs get a Christmas walk and cat socialisers get all the cat toys out for the cats to play with.
Next stop is The Mayhew Animal Home where, on Christmas Day, the animals get treats with their lunch plus new toys and extra cuddles.
Now flying high to the RSPCA Cat Adoption Centre at Burket Close, Southall.
The centre is warm and cosy compared to the frosty canal alongside.
Here each cat and kitten is hoping for a special Christmas dinner but, if you are nearby, the centre would be grateful for contributions towards this.
Then, lastly, the sleigh comes to rest in the field outside Dogs Trust.
Waiting patiently ly in the barn by the Christmas tree is the beautiful Border Collie, Bonnie.
She was given to o Dogs Trust as her owner had become e too ill to care for her.
Sian, the supporter relations officer, has taken Bonnie home overnight and describes her as an angel.

Meanwhile, for Bonnie and all Dogs Trust dogs who are still waiting for a home over Christmas, Father Christmas creeps in on Christmas Eve and silently leaves a present outside their kennel.
