Imaginative and thoughtful works chosen for office revamp
Students given ‘London Living’ theme for art competition
JUDGING an art competition is not an easy task at the best of times, but with the quality of work by students at Uxbridge College it is even harder.
But that was the challenge faced by the judges (me being one of them) during an art competition held at the campus in Park Road, Uxbridge on Friday of last week.
The six winning pieces, chosen on Friday, will now be put up in the soon-to-be finished office building in Belmont Road, which has undergone a £30million revamp.
Students in their first year of the Level 3 Art and Design course at Uxbridge College were given six weeks to come up with a piece of work around the theme of ‘London living’.
Using a range of styles, from painting to photography and fashion, students showed phenomenal levels of imagination, thoughtfulness and preparation.
Narrowing down the WINNER: entries to just four, including one overall winner, proved impossible so instead prizes were given out to six entries.
Judging was carried out TJG1ST by Julian Cobourne of Aviva Investors – who are the landlords of the Belmont Road building, chief executive of Hillingdon Council Fran Beasley, Vicky Cohen, art lecturer at Uxbridge College, and myself.
Mr Cobourne said: “The quality of artwork was outstanding and the RUNNER-UP:
huge effort put into the pieces was evident.
“The installations will look superb in Belmont, Aviva Investment’s newly redeveloped office building in town centre.”
The overall winner, a collaborative piece created by the graphics class at Uxbridge College will be Uxbridge RUNNER UP: displayed in the foyer of the Belmont building once it is officially finished in the coming weeks, while runners up will have their work displayed elsewhere in the offices. Congratulations to the winners and a huge well done to all of the entrants who showed such skill and inspiration.
