Parker’s perfect parting present lifts United before return to his parent club

-

HAYES & Yeading United manager Paul Hughes paid tribute to Wes Parker after his loan spell at the club ended in the best possible fashion on Saturday.

The Wealdstone defender came up with the winner in a 2-1 win over Redditch at Honeycroft – United’s first league win for more than two months.

It proved the final act of his month at United as Wealdstone recalled him on Monday.

“Wes came here to get fitness a, said Hughes. “He has been brilliant for us. To say he is a seasoned pro is probably the wrong phrase, but you know what I mean. He is very reliable and has given his all. We have only lost one in six in all competitions and Wes was one of the reasons.”

As Parker heads out the door, Hughes confirmed his focus is on the other end of the pitch. He wants a forward to compliment Mitchell Weiss and Lewis Putman as he seeks the goals to confirm Southern Premier League safety.

“I’d like to bring another one in as we only have two and we need to help them and bring competition,” added Hughes.

United were due to be in action at home to Basingstoke last night (Tuesday) and host Kings Lynn on Saturday. The East Anglians are marooned in mid-table.

“Sides having nothing to play for is a myth,” said Hughes. “You never go out to lose and being in mid-table can take the pressure off, allowing a team to express themselves and play better. So, we are going to have to be on our A-game, but the way we have been playing and improving it will take a good side to beat us.”
