BRUNEL BULLET SET FOR WORLD CHAMPS
BRUNEL University middle-distance runner Shelayna Oskan-Clarke is preparing for a big weekend at the IAAF World Championships in London, writes Max Hall.
The Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow runner will be running in the 800m tomorrow night from 7.25pm, with the semi-finals at 7.35pm on Friday and the final at 8.10pm on Sunday.
The south Londonder took silver at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade this year in a time of 2.00.39.
And the 27-year-old track star set an outdoor personal best of 1.58.86 in Beijing two years ago before running 1.58.99 to come fifth in the final.
Oskan-Clarke was eliminated in the semi-final in Rio last year, with a time of 1.59.45 and will be hoping to go at least one stage further at the Olympic Stadium this weekend.
■ Hillingdon Athletics Club’s under-13/15 team have won promotion to the UK Youth Development League by winning their division. Hillingdon won each of their three league meetings with a full team in every event and finished in style with a record score of more than 600 points in their final outing.
Hillingdon Triathlon Club’s Clark Scholfield and Dave Knight came second and third, respectively, at Harefield in the second meeting of a three-match series won by 17-year-old Optima Racing Team’s Gregory Atkins.
The women had a clean sweep with Caroline Whittaker first home – and 14th overall – ahead of clubmates Caroline Greenaway and Boo Smith.
