HILLINGDON WINS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL IN BLOOM AWARDS
CONSTRUCTION has begun on a £13.8m extra care supported housing facility in Uxbridge for older people in the community.
The 60-bedroom development being built for Hillingdon Council, in Farrier Close, will replace Park View Day Centre, which has been shut for several years. The new development aims to enable older people to live as independently as possible for as long as possible before they need more assistance.
Park View Court will have 57 one, two and three-bed extra care apartments, as well as communal living spaces, and each apartment will come with an attached ‘winter garden’ enclosed by glass sliding panels.
The three-storey building is being built to the Stirling Gold quality standard for dementia care and has incorporated the police initiative Secure by Design to keep residents safe.
Building is due to be complete by August 2018 and local people have been given construction training opportunities as work progresses on the site.
Councillor Philip Corthorne, cabinet member for social services, housing, health and wellbeing, said: “This is one of two large housing developments we’re investing in to support older people who want to carry on living independently.
“These homes will be modern, comfortable and close to local amenities and the on-site care facilities will provide invaluable peace of mind for those with extra care needs.
“I’m delighted that construction is under way and look forward to seeing the homes occupied in the not too distant future.”
