DORS GALORE AT TERRACED HOME
THE antics of today’s celebrities occasionally shock the nation, but for many decades actress Diana Dors took it to a whole different level.
Born in 1931, she faked her age to gain entry to an acting school in London and by age 18 was making bit-part appearances in films.
Her fame came chiefly from two sources – her reputation as the English Marylyn Monroe and an outrageous personal life.
Her marital antics quickly became a cottage industry for many tabloid newspapers, although her acting career was more serious. It included two spells working in Hollywood, and appearances alongside Joan Collins and Rod Steiger and work on two Alfred Hitchcock TV series. She also had her own ITV show, headlined in Las Vegas, became a regular on British game and chat shows and for a while was a TV fitness and dieting guru.
She also liked her houses to be luxurious and, as well as a country manor house, her former home on Burnsall Street in London’s Chelsea is no exception. The terraced property, which is due to have a blue plaque added to it on February 11 in memory of her career, is now for sale.
A double-fronted, four-bedroom house recently extended at the rear, just off the King’s Road, it includes a basement gym and is for sale at £2.85m with agent John D Wood (020 7352
