A NORTHWOOD-BASED charity has been awarded a big donation.

Michael Sobell Hospice, at Mount Vernon Hospital, has been selected by Uxbridge-based Mondelez International to receive a donation of £5,000.

Dedicated to providing comfort, care and support for local people facing lifelimiting illnesses, the hospice will be granted the substantial figure from the Cadbury Foundation, as part of its ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme.

Through inpatient care, a day centre, rehabilitation aid, family support and bereavement counselling, Michael Sobell hospice aims for every patient to experience a journey towards the end of their life that is comfortable and free from pain.

This contribution will significantly improve the assessment process of patient’s needs, which will immediately lead to a more specialised level of care. Current equipment can now also be adapted to better suit each scenario encountered by the team.

Each year, all Mondelez International UK employees are invited to nominate wellbeing-related charities or projects close to their hearts, with the final shortlisted charities up for vote amongst fellow colleagues.

Michelle Riley, UK market analyst at the site in Uxbridge, nominated the charity to receive the bursary. Michelle

said: “My family and I experienced first-hand the incredible work the team do on a daily basis.

“They looked after my mum when she was very ill and we couldn’t have asked for more during her time there. Winning the ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ donation for the hospice is a dream come true.”

Judi Byrne, chief executive at Michael Sobell Hospice Charity, said: “This wonderful donation will go towards supporting the specialist care we offer. We can also help to provide those little extras, including bedside tables, garden plants, arts and craft supplies and reading materials, which make hospice care so special.”

The Cadbury Foundation was set up in 1935 in recognition of Richard and George Cadbury and their investment in the welfare of their employees and the local community.

Kelly Farrell, community affairs manager at Mondelez International, said: “We’re extremely proud to be able to support the charities that are important to our employees through our ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme.

“Michael Sobell Hospice provides an invaluable service, and last year the rehabilitation team helped over 2,200 people. We’re delighted that The Cadbury Foundation can help it to extend its great work.”
