How would your missing house cat get home?

A surprising number of the reports our branch receives about missing cats, relate to house cats who according to their owners, aren’t microchipped because they never go out or only ever stay in the garden.

An open door or window can provide an exit for a cat that has had a fright, is just acting on curiosity or who, if not neutered, ventures off in search of love.

Indoor cats are generally not streetwise and are particularly vulnerable in the big wide world. Microchipped cats are more likely to be reunited with their owners if found and to receive prompt veterinary care if injured.

We would recommend that all cats be microchipped, and indoor cats should be no exception. Microchipping typically costs £10-£20, and you can also look out for special microchip promotions which may be cheaper – it’s a small price to pay for added peace of mind and safety for your cat. Notify the microchip database whenever your contact details change. For advice or help with microchipping your cat, speak to your vet or call our RSPCA Hillingdon Clinic on 01895 231435.

Ashford shop makeover

Our charity shop at 89 Church Road, Ashford, reopened on Monday after being closed for one week for some much needed refurbishment. Why not call in to check out the new look and pick up a bargain, we’d love to see you. Any donations of good quality items for sale are also always gratefully received, and help us carry on our vital work.

Volunteer – our shops need you!

Our charity shops play a vital role in raising funds to provide veterinary treatment and care for local animals in need and suffering. The work of a volunteer is varied; for example, do you have a flair for fashion, an artistic eye for display or just enjoy meeting new people and being part of a friendly team? Do you have an interest in books? Our Hillingdon shop needs someone to “love” the fantastic books that are donated, so they can be appreciated by our visitors.

Please email volunteers@rspcahillingdonclinic.org.uk or pick up an application from one of our shops.

Looking for loving homes

Dusty is a handsome three year old boy looking for a lifetime of love, after already having been passed between homes through no fault of his own. He is very sweet natured and adores fuss and human attention, but would prefer not to have to share that with other pets. He will require regular grooming to keep that beautiful semi-long haired coat in good condition.

After being with us for six weeks, Dusty is really hoping that someone will come along soon to offer him the home that truly will be forever this time. Ruburn is one of several rabbits we have, hoping to join a loving family. This two-year-old male is bright as a button and with his sweet temperament, will make a lovely pet. Rabbits do of course need a spacious hutch and run, as well as the proper care and diet. If you can offer a loving home call us on 01895 833417 or apply online at www.rspcahillingdonclinic.org.uk.
