TV’S PHIL HAS ALL THE INFO
The moment the monster comes to life in 1931 classic horror film Frankenstein is one of Hollywood’s iconic moments.
The actor with the bolt through his neck and the squarest of square foreheads was British performer Boris Karloff.
Real name William Henry Pratt, Karloff was born in Camberwell in 1887, the youngest of nine children. out across Royal Avenue. The current owners are obviously Bond fans. A poster for Never Say Never Again, featuring Sean Connery as 007, adorns one living room wall.
Royal Avenue was also a film location for 1963’s The Servant, which starred Dirk Bogarde, James Fox and Sarah Miles. In Fleming’s famous spy novels, Bond refers to his home as ‘just off the King’s Road’ and – as London addresses go – his chosen location is hard to beat.
Royal Avenue was designed by Christopher Wren on behalf of William III in the 1690s. The stylish shops and famous restaurants of the King’s Road are just a short walk away from this beautiful tree-lined avenue.
This property is for sale via Knight Frank (020 7661 1794). Hollywood, Karloff returned to London in 1959 to Cadogan Square in Knightsbridge.
An apartment within his former home is now on the market for £2.85m.
The two-bedroom flat lies within a Grade II listed red brick building in one of London’s finest garden squares and offers almost 1,900 sq ft of accommodation.
It’s on the market via JLL (020 7306 1616) EVER wished you knew a bit more about a property before you put an offer in on it? Finding out about local planning applications or how much the sellers paid for it could be useful when committing to a purchase.
But information can be thin on the ground. Not any longer, though.
Location, Location, Location TV show presenter Phil Spencer has launched a service that offers home buyers the inside track about any property in the UK, designed to help them secure their dream home.
Launched by Phil at the Ideal Home Show and called Move iQ, his company charges £15 for a tailored information pack that includes an estimate of a property’s value, photos, the previous price paid for the property by the seller, details of local planning changes and applications, information from the property’s Title Register as well as boundary plans.
Phil, who owns homes both in Wandsworth in London and in Sussex, says he thinks the housing market is unfairly stacked in the seller’s favour and wants to redress this imbalance with unbiased advice.
“I want to arm anyone moving with the tools, knowledge and confidence to secure the right property and get the best deal possible,” says Phil.
“Equally, knowing vital propertyspecific and local area information about somewhere you’re set to call ‘home’ is too often overlooked.
“Having all the facts to hand and knowing what to do with them, is essential when buying.”
