Q

I HAVE an expensive hardwood dining table with a cup mark stain on it. What product can I buy to remove it? Sharon Campione, by email

A

TRY

to buff the stain out with wax polish. The other solution is to apply methyl alcohol to a cloth and rub with a circular motion.

If these fail, you need to use a burnishing paste, but I would get an expert to do that on an expensive table.

I HAVE been painting my fence with Ronseal fence paint and some splashed on to my slabs and brickwork. How can I remove it? Gillian Mackie, by email I

HAVE been painting my fence with Ronseal fence paint and some splashed on to my slabs and brickwork. How can I remove it? Gillian Mackie, by email

A

DRIED paint needs to be scraped off as much as possible, then apply a paint stripper like Nitromors and use steel wool to agitate the paint away.

Q

I HAVE moved into a house with a flat-roofed extension. I’ve replaced the roof on it as the old one was leaking, but there is still a smell. I’ve noticed black mould on the back of the plasterboard. Steve Bolton, by email

A

THE only way you will remove the smell is to remove all the waterdamaged plasterboard. It can be quite messy but isn’t a difficult job, probably costing around £200.

If you decide to do this, install foil-backed or insulated plasterboard so you’re upping the specification and replacing the old material with something better.
