Concert’s a crowd-pleaser
ORCHESTRA TO PLAY PIECES CHOSEN BY SUPPORTERS
HILLINGDON Philharmonic Orchestra is to present a unique concert this month, with music chosen entirely by their audience.
The group recently invited their supporters to choose and then sponsor favourite classical excerpts for performance at their summer concert, with all proceeds going towards orchestra funds.
The orchestra was overwhelmed by the response from their audience members, and now have a full programme for the concert, to be held on Saturday June 23 at St Mary’s Church, South Ruislip, including many favourite symphonic and concerto movements.
The selection includes Khachaturian’s Adagio from Spartacus, also known as the popular theme from The Onedin Line, while movements from Bellini’s Trumpet Concerto, Beethoven’s Symphony No 7 and Donizetti’s Concertino for Cor Anglais and orchestra are also included.
The Adagio from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba and Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia will also feature in this nicely varied programme. The concert will conclude with Stravinsky’s Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird Suite.
The concert is part of the 32nd season for the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra, which is now well established in the local area with more than 60 registered members, and has performed an incredibly wide and varied repertoire of works over the years.
In addition to countless concerts at local venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues, including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral.
In July 2011 the group celebrated 25 years of music making at the Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square.
The concert will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the orchestra, Peter J Williams.
Tickets cost £12 (concessions £10, children 11-16 £5, under 11s free) available from Pro Music International, Swakeleys Road, Ickenham or by calling 01895 674 223.
