Getting club fit for purpose

PRIZE OF £1,500 BUILDING MATERIALS TO BE USED FOR GYM AND FIXING CLUBHOUSE AT ‘THE DEN’

AFTER winning the hearts of judges and residents, Denham United Ladies Football Club has been named as a winner in the Jewson Building Better Communitie­s competitio­n.

Following thousands of regional entries being submitted from across Great Britain, Denham United Ladies Football Club has been awarded £1,500 worth of materials from the builders’ merchant.

Using their winnings, Denham United Ladies will fix its leaking roof and complete constructi­on on an on-site gym so players can stay fit ahead of matches and during injury.

This year’s Building Better Communitie­s competitio­n was launched in April 2018 and more than 2,400 entries – made up of good causes from up and down Great Britain – were submitted. These were later narrowed down to a shortlist and put to a public vote, with the winners announced at an awards ceremony held in Coventry on 3rd July.

At the event, Denham United Ladies Football Club and 36 other UK successful projects were presented with prizes by renowned architect and TV personalit­y, George Clarke.

After being awarded their prize, Alex Gaffney, sponsorshi­p manager at Denham United Ladies Football Club, commented: “We were delighted to have been awarded our prize and we’d like to thank Jewson for their support of ladies’ grass roots football. Architect and TV presenter George Clarke presented the prize to Denham United Ladies Football Club

“With this money, we’ll be able to finish off our new gym, which will give us excellent facilities for all of our players.”

George Clarke commented: “It’s local sports clubs like Denham United Ladies Football Club which help bring people closer together and Jewson does great work in supporting them with Building Better Communitie­s.

“This competitio­n is a fantastic idea and it’s always great to see so many happy faces at the awards presentati­on.

“By giving something back to the areas that support them, Jewson is creating brighter futures for those who need it.

“I’d like to congratula­te Denham United Ladies Football Club on their

deserved win.”
