Massive welcome for giant mastiff

GOOD LUCK CHUNKIE – RESCUE CENTRE REHOMES DOG WHO WEIGHS MORE THAN A BABY RHINO

-

CHUNKIE by name, Chunkie by nature – a pooch weighing almost nine and a half stone has finally found a home.

He’s the heaviest dog in five years to be rehomed by Dogs Trust West London.

Six-year-old Chunkie weighs 60kg and is also the first ever Boerboel (also known as South African Mastiff) that has ever come through the doors of the Harefield rehoming centre since it opened 12 years ago.

Records show that Dogs Trust has only ever had two other Boerboels previously come in to the charity’s centres, one at Kenilworth rehoming centre in 2013 and another Loughborough rehoming centre in 2017, making the breed something of a rarity.

Big boy Chunkie weighs more than a baby rhinoceros and the staff certainly have their hands full with him.

He’s described as a ‘soppy giant’ by his canine carers, and they are delighted that he has found his forever home with Joshua McKnight from Hampshire.

Dogs Trust West London’s Rehoming Centre manager Richard Moore said: “Chunkie is one of the biggest residents we’ve had for a very long time.

“He came to us through no fault of his own.

“I’m delighted that Joshua had a heart as big as Chunkie himself and decided to adopt him.”

Joshua added: “Of course the first thing you notice about Chunkie is his size! But after a few meets with him we soon realised he had an equally large personality to go with it. We’ve really fallen for him and can’t wait to take him home.”

If you are interested in adopting one of the centre’s pooches please call 0300 303 0292 or visit Dogs Trust West London at Highway Farm, Harvil Road, Uxbridge, UB9 6JW.
