DISAPPOINTING WEEKEND OF RESULTS FOR STONES
STONES’ DIRECTOR STEPS DOWN FORCING CLUB INTO A RESHUFFLE
THE executive board of National League South Wealdstone FC have announced a change following the decision of current vice chairman Nick Archer to step down as a director of the club.
Executive director Rory Fitzgerald will replace him in the role with specific responsibility for football matters and ground development.
Chairman Peter Marsden said: “We are sorry that Nick has decided to step down as a director of the club.
“We would like to thank him for his unstinting work at Wealdstone over the last year and I have been particularly grateful for his personal support to me since my appointment as chairman.
“He is a great football man, has been a real rock during some challenging times and we wish him all the very best. Rory will be an extremely able vice chairman and I know that he will do a great job in the role”
Fitzgerald said: “We are embarking on new and exciting times as we drive forward together to meet the many challenges at this level of football and I am very much looking forward to working towards achieving our progressive aims and ambitions for Wealdstone FC.”
Wealdstone drew 1-1 with Concord Rangers on Saturday before a 3-0 defeat at Oxford City ended a disappointing weekend in terms of results. Against Concord, Danny Green scored Stones’ goal while keeper Jonathan North made his 350th appearance for the club.
Hillingdon Borough won their Spartan South Midlands Division One clash with Hatfield Town 4-1.
The results maintained their perfect start to the season.
Dominant Boro took control of the game midway through the half with a quickfire double from strikers Sean Peters and Marcus Greenidge.
A wonderful effort from substitute Harry Healy followed in the 78th minute when he curled the ball in the top corner from an acute angle.
The visitors pulled one back late on, but Boro striker Peters had the final say, smashing home from 12 yards to get his double and maintain Boro’s 100% league record for the season.
Manager Kurtice Herbert was delighted: “This is exactly why I bought these three players into my side. I know that they will get me goals and it’s what they have done. They have told me that scoring a goal a game was their realistic target and if this is the case, the other side must score three. Therefore I’m extremely pleased.”
