A HEADTEACHER has praised the staff and pupils at an Isleworth primary school after an emergency involving a “suspicious object”.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called at around 1.30pm on Thursday October 17 to The Blue School, in North Street, following concerns raised by staff.

It is said the evacuation was caused by a child bringing a Second World War shell into the school for show and tell. London Fire Brigade confirmed they were called to the school at 1.50pm for an “unexploded ordnance”.

Specially-trained officers were deployed and a decision was made to evacuate the school. A 200-metre wide cordon was also put in place as a precaution while the object was removed.

Parents and guardians of pupils at the school were sent an emergency text message requesting they collect their children.

Head teacher Rachel Jones told MyLondon: “The school was evacuated within two minutes.

“The kids were fantastic because they are used to having a drill and they are extremely well-behaved children. We evacuated to nearby St Mary’s School and we are very grateful to headteacher Mr Martin and his staff who helped us.”

Ms Jones praised all those involved in the emergency and the police for being very professional, adding: “While the children waited for parents to collect them officers from the police worked extremely efficiently.

“It’s good to know everything runs so well in an emergency.

“I think its a marvellous example of Isleworth coming together to help each other.”

The school could not confirm if the incident was a result of a child bringing in a Second World War shell.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to The Blue

School in North Street, Isleworth, following a report of a suspicious object. An evacuation of the school and a wider 200m cordon was put in place as a precaution while officers removed the object.

“The incident has been stood down by officers and the object was removed from the premises.”
