Hero firefighters rescue dog buried deep in fox warren

-

A RUISLIP resident and dog owner has thanked her local fire crew for saving her trapped dog Darcy.

Darcy, a Jack Russell, pug and border terrier cross, bolted through the front door of her home on Blenheim Crescent at around 11.30am and went missing for nine hours before the London Fire Brigade could return her home.

Owner Vicki Galli said she could hear “distant barking deep underground” but had no way of reaching her dog, who had fled past a “barbed wire fence next to the train tracks”.

She said: “I spent all day calling her and looking for her as I couldn’t hear the barking anymore. I went again at around 7pm but had resigned myself to the idea that I wouldn’t see one-year-old Darcy again.

“I heard a tiny bark and decided to call the fire brigade local station and Green Watch at Ruislip

Fire Station came out immediately.

“They got over the fence and began the search. After two hours of the fire brigade searching for her and nine hours missing, they found Darcy buried deep in a fox warren. If they hadn’t found her she would not be alive. She was stuck.

“Thank you so much to the fire brigade. They are truly kind and hardworking people.”

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “We are glad we could help Darcy on this occasion – we would always attend an animal stuck or in distress as it’s important to ensure members of the public stay safe and don’t injure themselves trying to help stricken pets.

“We would always encourage people to call the RSPCA in the first instance if they do see an animal stuck or in distress.

“Firefighters love animals and we are always happy to assist if the RSPCA require our specialist equipment.”
