BRENTFORD’S YOUNG GUNS ENJOY INTERNATIONAL STAGE

-

BRENTFORD’S youth internationals were involved in four matches over the weekend – three of which ended in wins with one defeat.

France enjoyed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Georgia in Nancy, and it was Bryan Mbeumo’s 92nd-minute corner that set up the win.

Starting on the bench, it was 2-2 at the Stade Marcel-Picot when Mbeumo sent in the corner from which Dan-Axel Zagadou was fouled by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Odsonne Édouard converted from 12 yards to maintain France’s perfect record in Group B. It was Mbeumo’s fourth appearance at U21 level.

Mads Bech Sorensen saw red as Denmark kept up their perfect record in Group H with a 3-2 win over Ukraine in Lviv.

The Danes were cruising after a Robert Skov hat-trick. However, Nazariy Rusyn pulled one back before Sorensen was shown a straight red for a foul in the box. Another Brentford lad, Mads Roerslev, then came on for the final eight minutes as Denmark saw out the game.

It was both Mads’ third cap at U21 level, while Bees’ Japhet Sery Larsen was an unused substitute.

David Titov remained an unused substitute as 10-man Latvia’s winless run in U21 European Championship Qualifying was extended to five matches after a 2-0 defeat to Russia.

Titov has two U21 appearances to his name.

Also an unused substitute on Friday was Ellery Balcombe as England made it four wins from four in Group C.

Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher, and Reiss Nelson got the goals in Shkodër as Albania were swept aside.

Meanwhile, Brentford are getting ready to host Reading on Saturday as the Championship swings back into action.
