CAN YOU HELP TEACH A GIRAFFE TO BOOGIE?

-

WITH their lean legs and long necks you’d think, of all animals, giraffes might be among the best movers in the animal kingdom – and yet, according to Simon Friend Entertainment’s brand-new family production, Giraffes Can’t Dance.

Based on the best-selling picture book by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees, Giraffes Can’t Dance tells the story of Gerald the Giraffe, who longs to go to the great Jungle Dance… but how can he join in when he doesn’t know how to tango or two-step?

Everyone knows that giraffes can’t dance! Or do they?

With a little help from a wise and kind cricket, Gerald (played by Sophie Coward) discovers his rhythm – because sometimes when you’re different, you just need a different song!

Phyllis Ho will play the cheerful Cricket and Joshua Coley, Gracia Rios and Jason Yeboa will guide audiences through the show, transforming into Gerald’s dancing jungle friends.

Carrying the important and universal message of acceptance and self-belief, the sensitive storytelling of Giraffes Can’t Dance is perfect for young children, who will be encouraged to dance to their own tune.

The show runs at Curve in Leicester until January 5 and will be performed at Rose Theatre Kingston during Easter, before touring the UK until August 2020.

It has been adapted by Julia Thomas, director, and Tasha Taylor, composer, who have reunited for the first time since their acclaimed production of Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine.
