PREVIEW: BAD BOYS FOR LIFE (15)

WILL SMITH and Martin Lawrence (pictured) reprise their roles as Miami detectives and best buddies Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in the third and final instalment of the Bad Boys trilogy, which began 25 years ago.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah share directorial responsibilities for this action-packed chapter, which finds the central characters facing the possibility of retirement.

Lowrey has been promoted to a police inspector and zooms around Miami in his flash sports car, convinced he will be bringing down criminals until he is 100. In stark contrast, Burnett acknowledges his best years are behind him as he accepts orders from Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano) to take charge of a team of fresh-faced recruits comprising Dorn (Alexander Ludwig), Kelly (Vanessa Hudgens) and Rafe (Charles Melton).

The two men turn back the clock as “bad boys” when a gun-toting motorcycle assassin (Jacob Scipio) targets Lowrey.

1917 (15)

SIR Sam Mendes’ real-time First World War thriller sees Lance Corporal Tom Blake (DeanCharles Chapman) and Lance Corporal William Schofield (George MacKay, pictured) begin April 6, 1917 in peaceful slumber against a tree as thunder rumbles in the distance.

The men are roused to receive orders from General Erinmore (Colin Firth), who must prevent Colonel Mackenzie (Benedict Cumberbatch) from leading The 2nd Devons into a trap set by the Germans. “We would lose two battalions – 1,600 men – your brother among them,” Mackenzie sombrely informs Blake.

The Germans have severed all telephone lines so the only way to warn The 2nd Devons is to dispatch Blake and Schofield on foot into enemy territory to reach Mackenzie before dawn, when the fateful order will be given to attack the line.

SEBERG (15)

OPAQUE drama about the FBI’s persecution of Iowa-born actress Jean Seberg. In May 1968, Jean (Kristen Stewart, right) travels to Los Angeles from Paris for an audition. Her flight is interrupted by black civil rights activist Hakim Jamal (Anthony Mackie), who argues that Malcolm X’s widow should be given a seat in first class. He impresses Jean, who raises a fist in solidarity with the Black Panthers on the airport runway as photographers swarm.

Soon after, Jean becomes romantically entangled with married Hakim, which brings her to the attention of the FBI. Agents Jack Solomon (Jack O’Connell) and Carl Kowalski (Vince Vaughn) are tasked with monitoring Seberg, but their interference sees the actress slide inexorably towards self-destruction.
