FRANK HAPPY WITH BEES’ FIVE-STAR SHOW AGAINST WEDNESDAY

BRENTFORD ‘ARE A BIG THREAT TO EVERY TEAM’ CLAIMS BOSS

-

BRENTFORD boss Thomas Frank agreed that his side’s 5-0 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday was “up there” with the best of the season so far.

Goals from Josh Dasilva (2), Emiliano Marcondes, Bryan Mbeumo and Tariqe Fosu swept away Wednesday’s challenge at Griffin Park and Frank was delighted.

“It’s up there, definitely, and the big headline for me was the desire to defend,” said Frank on the club’s website.

“Because we know we are a very good side going forward, we know we are a top footballing team, so when we are on it we are a big threat for every team in this division.

“But the thing we wanted to change most this season was defending, and we’ve been very pleased with that throughout the season until we came into February, until we started to concede more soft goals for various reasons.

“We have been talking about it for quite a while. We had a step up against Cardiff in many ways and here we were bang on, to keep the clean sheet. You could see in the first 20 minutes we were absolutely at the top of our game. We maybe dropped off a bit but they are not a bad side, Sheffield Wednesday. Not everything was right, but we put blocks in and we fought and we went 5-0 up.

“Even in the end we put fantastic blocks in to keep a clean sheet. Obviously I want to score lots of goals, but the defending will help us achieve what we want to achieve this season.”

The Bees’ players have enjoyed time off recently, and it bore fruit.

“The freshness in the team, you could see that,” added Frank. “We know how hard we train every single game. We need to be sensible as well.

“Before the Cardiff game we gave them three days off in a row and again they had some time off.

“We are very difficult to stop. It’s nice to see the BMW getting all the headlines. Bryan [Mbeumo] still scored a fantastic goal, Said [Benrahma] had two assists and Ollie [Watkins] worked so hard. Obviously you want to score as a striker, but just working for that bigger purpose, winning the football match, is fantastic.”

“Now we are ready to go again against Fulham.”

Fulham go into Friday’s huge west London derby on the back of a 1-1 draw at Bristol City. They went behind to a Nahki Wells goal, but Tom Cairney ensured Scott Parker’s side left with a point when he struck in the 84th minute to level it up.

The Cottagers are third, six points behind West Brom in second and seven behind new leaders Leeds United.

Brentford are fourth, four points behind Fulham and now 10 points off the automatic promotion places.
