Blushing beauty
Create a serene space with out favourite shade of pink
BLUSH pink is ideal for a relaxing sitting room: It’s calming and serene, while also being refined and feminine. It works almost like a neutral, in the same way beige or taupe do – but without the potential for being a bit boring that those colours have.
Add in a few other shades of pink as well. A statement cushion or two in bold berry, a rug in a pastel, and even pearlescent purple shades (like the vases) all mix well together.
Contrast glamorous furniture with rustic, unfinished walls and floors:
THIS is perfect in houses with a bit of history and high ceilings. In newer houses you could go for a rag-rolled or sponged effect, where a rough layer of paint is applied over walls to give them an almost textured appearance.
Straw yellow or pale cloudy grey both work well for this effect.
Go rustic with your choice of flowers as well. Dried grasses, bare twigs, dried honesty branches (Lunaria annua – those sprays of round translucent seed pods), allium seeds and tall pampas grass flowers all look gorgeous in vases.
Add floor cushions to instantly and cheaply add more seating. Go for something cute and kitsch with frills on, or something more practical, such as indoor/outdoor cushions woven from recycled plastic (see Weavergreen.com). You can use them in the garden in the summer months.
A grand floor-length mirror is an exciting and unusual living room choice. It creates interest in a corner that would be overlooked, like creating another doorway. Plus it adds extra light.
